This workshop introduces participants to generating artworks using pen plotters and JavaScript. The session will start with a brief introduction to pen plotting and the essential tools involved, followed by an introduction to the concepts behind generative art.

From there, the primary focus will be on using JavaScript to generate SVG code, creating algorithm-driven vector artworks. Participants will have the opportunity to bring their code to life by drawing their creations programmatically using pen plotters. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a solid understanding of how to combine code and physical tools to produce generative artwork.

Outline:

  • Introduction to pen plotting and its tools
  • Basics of generative art and creative coding
  • Using JavaScript to generate SVGs
  • Get plotting!

Experience level

Basic coding knowledge in JavaScript will allow participants to experiment further, but for those without that experience will still be able to participate. No previous experience with generative art or pen plotters is necessary.
